BROTHERS WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT!!!
Dear Supporters,
As we dig out of the snow storm that hit our region this weekend, I am reminded of how much we can accomplish when we roll up our sleeves and help one another.
From the family who helped shovel a neighbor's driveway, to the committed MWFME members who braved the storm to help one another dig out the snow and make calls in support of our 2010 Reunion on Mothers day, Sunday, May 9th, I have personally witnessed the selfless generosity of our community and members this weekend.
While the winter storm that hit the region has helped to bring out our best, it also, understandably, took many of MWFME members and young sisters away from their responsibility, which has impacted our Fundraising Campaign.
As you may have heard through email/text or telephone, MWFME is tracking behind its overall fundraising goal for the 2010 Reunion Mother's Day Event.
Forecasters are beginning to say that there is another snowstorm expected for the middle of this week. Before we begin to focus on that, let's focus on our collective goal - the goal of supporting this fundraising campaign and ensuring the future prosperity of our women, especially young women and at-risk teens.
In order to make up the negative effect of this weekend's storm and possibly next weekend , we have made the decision to extend the Fundraising Campaign on-going.
Many people have already shown their support for MWFME by buying pre-paid tickets and making a pledge of support. If that's you, THANK YOU! Your support truly does make a difference, and is very much appreciated.
If you have not yet made a gift of support, and you are a MWFME supporter who is able to make a donation today - Please do so by clicking link. https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=MVEC7AV6SDSB4
Whatever your support status may be, please think about the value that MWFME brings to our families and community and make a pledge of support today. Gifts of ANY amount will do much to help us reach our fundraising goals.
With the sense of community spirit I witnessed this weekend in mind and always the devastation of Haiti weighs heavily on our hearts, I urge you to join many of your friends in the Philly who have already pledged their support as part of this campaign. Please email our director at chefmarie@hotmail.com and/or call 267.240.8945. You may also contactAginahhair@aol.com 267.226.3432 or Elizabeth Shabazz at 215.849.3432 to make a donation now.
*MWFME PROGRAM SUMMARY UPON REQUEST
Thank you,
Marie R. Ali
Director of Fundraising Campaign
P.S.
As a not for profit organization, MWFME relies on the financial support of individual donors to supply more than 50% of its operational budget. We rely on people like you to fund the trusted MWFME organization and outreach that helps to shape women, especially young women and at-risk teen lives.
The goal of MWFME Fundraising Campaign is critical. The national economic climate have put us in a position to rely more heavily on the support of individual donors.
The good news is that our classes can begin in July 2010 and grow. But, as MWFME organization grows as a result of our educational program, so do the rent and utility bills that we must pay to our landlord. And don't forget the Books, Desk and Equipment we must purchase.
If you are a new supporter, or an old friend who is able to make an additional gift, please know that your support is utterly important.
Please make a donation now ! https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=MVEC7AV6SDSB4

SISTER'S WE'RE ALL IN THIS RACE
"When our Sisters are raised up, the victories will be all of Ours... for A Nation Can Rise No Higher Than Its Women"
Greetings of Peace!
In a relay race, you have batons that you’re passing to another person. Some relay races are 4 x 400 or 4 x 100. Each person on the team will pass a baton to the other or they are disqualified if they drop it while running if they don’t pick up the baton and continue the race.
All of us are in this race. Though each one of us have our own race to run. Yet, we’re helping each other to keep up the pace with our African American Muslim Women and especially our young and at-risk teens by offering them information, education and encouraging them to make better Choices by providing them with programs and classes.
Are you keeping the pace in your race? Yes and We Must ALL Stay United!
If we finish our course! On the road of this race, we’re going to experience all kinds of blessings for our family, community at large and the sisterhood. We may even stumble. But that doesn’t stop us from running this race. A strong woman fall several times, and rise up again. When I was producing the documentary and the feedback was you can't do it! I responded quietly under my breath Yes I can! I did. and I'm grateful to the Creator of the Sun, Moon and Stars.
Once we’ve gone through a couple of test, we'll all have the knowledge to help our sisters, teaching them how to run the race. Then we can PASS THE BATON TO THEM.
This race is not given to the swift or the fastest, but those that endure to the end. We’re all helpers one to another. "We want for our sisters what we want for ourselves."
Just like the links in the chain of slavery. If one is broken, we all feel that pull.
We have to guard each other to protect those coming against us. Let's help heal the divide between African American Muslim Women by putting our minds to work for Moral Excellence and Human Intelligence.
Beware of the enemy who is watching and gathering information on how they can trip us up? Just remember that G-d says, when I am for you no one can touch you!
Be Encouraged today my African American Muslim Sisters. Continue to run this race. We have lots of work to do and immeasurable support.
We'll see all our faces in the place Sunday, May 9, 2010. G-dwilling.

"When our Sistahs are raised up, the victories will be all of Ours... for A Nation Can Rise No Higher Than Its Women"
Greetings of Peace!
Aginah Carter-Shabazz and Elizabeth Salwa Shabazz
Thank You For Your Support!
Muslim Women For Moral Excellence, Call-Out meeting was a great success with well over 100 sisters in attendance from the Tri-State area. We heard the Call-Out and in a short time we were on our post (SMILE). The purpose of bringing us together was to plan a REUNION while also aiming at healing the divide between African American Muslim Sisters. We're moving forward to carry out our mission to provide programs/classes for All Muslim women, especially our young and at-risk teen girls. The event would not have been possible without the support and help from all of our sisters in attendance Muslim and Non Muslim and those who was there with us in-spirit. A special thanks to our speakers who gave of their time. Lena Frazier, our Mistress of Ceremony shared a heartfelt experience as a Christian women living amongst Muslims. Dr. Rosa Lewis for her calming sessions on how to stay calm and slowing down living in a Fast Pace World, Dr. Safiyyah Shabazz for her masterful power point presentation "How To Eat To Live, Dr. Faaizah Safir for her exciting holistic wellness approach, present Sister Captain Pamela Muhammad for her MGT/GCC philosophy and principles (women learning about their self worth), former MGT 1st Lieutenant Sister Samirah Mc Laurin who resides in Atlanta called-in to give us the greetings of peace on speaker phone. And our keynote speaker who traveled here from California, former MGT Captain, Dr. Intisar Shareef who took us on a spiritual journey from history with both the first experience and our current understanding of Al-Islam. All praises is due to Allah(G-d).
We raffled off a full length coat for a sister to wear during these cold winter months. The coat was donated to the sister who had the matching ticket numbers.
We dined on a scrumptious meal of Brown Rice, Fish, Curried Chicken, Baked Chicken, Glazed Carrots, Gourmet Cabbage, Salad and delicious chocolate & vanilla cakes by Sieedah and carrot pies by Waheedah.
Personally I am impressed by the way Marie and Barbara managed the kitchen and served the food. But then again, no I am not. Sister Barbara is a former MGT. Marie is the daughter of Minnie Ali who is also a former MGT. As I say in my book CHOICEZ.... Talking about Muslim Unity we were tight! We Were Productive!
NOW SISTERS WE HAVE SOME SERIOUS WORK TO DO BEFORE OUR REUNION MOTHER'S DAY, SUNDAY, MAY 9, 2010 at the African American Museum in Philadelphia. We have confirmed the entire place. PRE PAID TICKETS ARE NOW ON SALE!!!
FYI
Dr. Intisar Shareef reminded us of how at one time the MGT's (Muslim Girls' Training) in Philadelphia raised $160,000 in 6 months. Powerful! Wew're inspired to do it again in 2010 to purchased our own building.
Muslim Girls'Training (MGT)… We use the term Muslim because that’s who we are. We identify with the name Girls because that’s where the teaching and training starts and that’s where innocence and purity of spirit begins. If women especially young women are armed with education, motivation, information and resources, I believe they can achieve success on any level, no matter their background or life experience, guided by ALLAH (G-D), through HIS creation, the Holy Qur'an, and the life example of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Check back here periodically for updates, meeting schedules and postings.

SEVEN RIVERS OF HEALING PART 1
What Are the Seven Rivers?
Whether we see ourselves as body-machines, dirty temples, or ever-changing perfection, we all want and need help with healing injuries, illness, and deviations from our healthy norm. But with a limitless number of techniques to choose from, not to mention a multitude of practitioners, how do we choose? Who can we trust? What do we do? The Seven Rivers of Healing give structure to our quest for health.
The Wise Woman Tradition encourages us to make use of every healing option. But we can't use them all at once. Where do we start? How can we gauge what is most appropriate? How can we avoid harming ourselves in our attempts to heal/change? The Seven Rivers of Healing is a ranking system, a way to order our choices and determine what to do first.
The Seven Rivers of Healing contain all the techniques and all the substances used for healing throughout all times and all places. They flow from the most ancient past to the inconceivable future, collecting every method of healing ever known and bringing them to us today. They apply to all aspects of our beings, all parts of our wholeness: physical, emotional, mental, symbolic, and sacred.
The Seven Rivers of Healing connect orthodox and alternative medicines. Their flow represents a truly complementary approach to health care. One that can carry us on the magic carpet of science into the Great Mystery. One that allows all people to honor their individual beliefs about life and death and what we do in between. One that honors the interconnectedness of all. One that helps us in our search for completeness and in our desire to leave the world a healthier place for our children and grandchildren.
The Seven Rivers of Healing offer us a truly integrative approach which invites the hard-nosed realist to try out energy approaches and brings the shaman into the operating theater. It arose, in part, from my distress over the lives lost by those who believed that modern medicine can only do harm. It arose, in part, from my distress over the damage done to those who believed that modern medicine can do no harm.
The Seven Rivers of Healing is a pattern based on the recognition that we can be harmed by that which claims to heal us. The Seven Rivers of Healing affirms that all forms of healing do work -- but not that they are all always safe or beneficial. The flow of the Seven Rivers of Healing follows the most important precept in healing: "First, do no harm."
The Seven Rivers of Healing are not limited to any one tradition. Whether you are most comfortable in the scientific tradition, the heroic tradition, or the Wise Woman Tradition, flowing with the Seven Rivers of Healing will broaden your vision of health and increase your healing options. For the purpose of this book, however, I will frame my discussion primarily from the viewpoint of the Wise Woman.
First, Do No Harm
Every healing option, every method and material has its place in The Seven Rivers of Healing. They are arranged in the Rivers according to the frequency and severity of their harm, including unwanted side effects. Thus, the First River carries healing options that never cause any harm. The Second River carries options that may occasionally cause very mild harm. The Third River carries options that may, at times, cause some slight harm.
The Fourth River carries options that sometimes cause moderate harm. The Fifth River carries options that always cause some moderate harm but rarely death. The Sixth River carries options that always cause moderate harm and can sometimes kill. The Seventh River carries options that always cause harm and frequently cause grave harm or death.
Techniques, treatments and diagnostic procedures from the first four Rivers, when properly used, rarely cause harm and rarely have detrimental side effects. (If they do, the effects are usually mild and short-lived.) Techniques, treatments and diagnostic procedures from the last three Rivers, even when carefully and properly administered, almost always cause some harm, sometimes severe harm, as a consequence of their use. In addition, they usually have unwanted side effects that can be severe and long lasting.
Interaction with our physical being increases as we move through the Seven Rivers. In the First River, we are alone: not so much as the gaze of another person touches us. In the Second River, we open our minds: thoughts and ideas enter us, hands touch us lightly. In the Third River, we open our senses: vibrations, sounds, colors, and subtle energies move around and through us.
In the Fourth River, we open our mouths and take substances into our bodies: we move ourselves vigorously, circulating fresh blood deeply into our open and receptive cells. In the Fifth River, we enlist the aid of strong touch, powerful plants, even acupuncture needles to help us open and change. In the Sixth River, we disable or ignore our natural warning systems so we may ingest isolated, synthesized substances (drugs and supplements) which have powerful actions on our bodies and minds.
In the Seventh River of Healing, we are opened with knives, entered with needles and tubes, opened with radiation, penetrated with magnetic fields, altered with psychoactive allies.
Not only are we more at risk because we are more open (and more opened)--physically and mentally, emotionally and psychically--as we move from the first to the last River of Healing, but we are also more at risk because the currents of each successive River flow deeper and faster, sweeping us toward our goal with more and more force and urgency.
Each River increases the reality of the life/death struggle/union. In the first two Rivers, we encounter the thought of death, we learn about it. In the Third River of Healing we dream of death, we fear death. In the Fourth River we acknowledge that death is needed to feed life. In the Fifth River we are rescued from death by strong medicines and heroic measures. In the Sixth River, we brush death's shoulder, using poisons for their healing power. In the Seventh River we mimic death with anesthesia. We break ourselves into pieces. We are killed and returned to life. Or not. All Rivers return to the ocean, to the All, to the Void.
Each River can take us to the healing we want. Each River alone could be enough to create the health we seek. But when we understand and use them all, sequentially, going only so far as we need to gain health/wholeness/holiness, then we find ourselves healing in unimaginable ways. With the Seven Rivers of Healing to guide us, we can remember the playful child we once were and explore our healing options with a light and amused heart.
